When the class elects a new president, there is no special celebration. It’s a bit different when a new president of the country takes office.
Nataša Pirc Musar, the first woman elected to this position in Slovenia, was sworn in yesterday at the National Assembly.
This happened at the ceremonial session recognizing Independence and Unity Day, which will be celebrated on Monday, December 26th.
I dream of a better tomorrow. These are the dreams that were allowed to us upon the declaration of our country’s independence.
Nataša Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia
She pledged to be devoted to all Slovenes.
“I will always advocate for the rule of law, human rights, and the independence of state subsystems. We have to protect the country. We must love it – because it is ours, and in order to leave it in an excellent state to our successors,” the new president said.
The new president thanked former president Pahor for his work and mission. The MPs rewarded him with applause.
On this day, 30 years after the first session of the National Assembly in independent Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar is taking office from her predecessor, Borut Pahor.
What is the new president planning?
She announced that first she will visit neighboring Croatia and later other Balkan countries.
The team she introduced this week will assist her.
And what will Borut Pahor do?
He will spend one year as the former president. He will have an office and two colleagues. They agreed with the president that he would occasionally help with advice, just like the other two former presidents.
