Do you ever feel bad when you see that nobody likes your posts on Instagram? That nobody looks at your cool picture on Snapchat?
You sigh when you see that your friends have many more followers?
And maybe you decide to become famous once day, because these well-known people have huge numbers of followers.
No! The number of likes does not say anything about how good a photo is that you posted on Instagram, or how many friends you have.
An increasing number of media stories show how easy it is to buy likes and followers. And they’re not just bought by ordinary people! This is done by famous actors, singers and athletes. All this just to make them seem even more popular.
On Facebook, there are as many as 60 million fake profiles, and on Twitter, according to some estimates, about 48 million.
And if someone wants his message to be retweeted tens of thousands of times, then he only needs a few tens of euros for it.
Popularity on social networks does not depend on who we are and what we’re doing, but on how much money we are willing to spend on it.
As such, is it not much better to be with friends in a playground or yard and tell them how cool they are?
Glossary
Like is an icon that we use to express something we like.
Followers are those who follow us on social media, for example Instagram.
Point to Consider
- Why do famous people buy likes and followers?
- What does it mean to you to be popular on social media?
- Why are virtual freinds more important than real to some?
